I work for the Centre of Alternative Materials and Remanufacturing Technologies (CALMARE) at the University of Exeter and am organising an event entitled From Trash to Treasure.

The aim of the event is to explore waste management, landfill and the Circular Economy, and to discuss ways in which artists can use waste materials as a medium. Afterwards, there is an opportunity for participants to have one to one discussions with a materials specialist, to help develop their ideas for a piece of work using waste materials.

This event is going to be held here at the University on the 16th October. Participants will then have several months to submit their work – the brief will be given on the 16th Oct. In the new year, about Feb/March, an exhibition will be held, showcasing submitted entries.

Because of how we are funded, we can host this event free of charge for sole traders or small businesses based in the South West (excluding Cornwall). There is a small amount of paperwork that participants are required to complete.

I hope this gives you an idea of what it’s about, I have attached a flyer for the event and would encourage anyone interested in participating to register at http://from-trash-to-treasure.eventbrite.com. Or alternatively if you already use waste as a medium and are happy to share your experiences, please contact me direct.
