Please join Arts in Hospital and the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty team on Tuesday 27th January (3.30 – 5.30pm) for an afternoon event dedicated to two projects that showcase in different ways the relationship between landscape, art and wellbeing at Dorset County Hospital.

The Biophilia Film Channel is a new channel of artist’s film and video related to the Dorset landscape and is available free to patients and visitors to Dorset County Hospital, including patients in isolation units and public waiting area. The project is part of an ongoing use of digital technology to provide contact with nature, which has been evidenced to have psychological benefits by reducing stress, by having a positive effect on mental restoration and direct physical health benefits, such as increased longevity and reduced pain killer use.

The Drawing Inspiration exhibition showcases work from this successful project which has been supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. You can see how the Dorset landscape has inspired many artists from the past, including JMW Turner, Francis Newbery and Charles Rennie Macintosh as well as artistic responses to this outstanding landscape from secondary schools and contemporary artists.

At the event on Tuesday 27th January, you can see some of the films on show, hear from the curator Richard Povall and Dr Sue Thomas (author of Technobiophilia) then join us for a look at the Drawing Inspiration exhibition … followed by tea and cake in Damers Restaurant.

The event is FREE but please RSVP using this link, where you can also find location details:

We do hope you can join us

Best wishes
