The 2018 season of residencies and workshops at Au Brana is now in place and includes a broad range of opportunities to work with theatre, writing, dance, music and yoga practitioners at our rural space in the French countryside. Please help us to spread the word among your students and colleagues.


There are 5 different workshops led by the company in residence, OBRA in 2018; either a 3 week summer intensive led by 4 of the company’s core members or shorter sessions that focus on these individual’s specific disciplines. If you combine the summer session with any of the other shorter OBRA workshops you will receive a €50 discount AND an early bird discount of €50 if you book before February 15th;

22nd – 26th May – Floorwork, Flying Low and Improvisation with Fabian Wixe

An intensive week workshop for dancers and performers in techniques for floorwork, increasing proprioception, and developing skills in improvisation. A work session in which to learn new techniques and apply them immediately.
4th – 10th June – OBRA Open Session #9 – Writing from the Body with Oliviero Papi, Kate Papi and Lucy Burnett
The session will draw on, and further, the practice-led research, which OBRA and Lucy have been developing, into “Writing from the Body” as primary source. This involves exploring how language can be generated in response to a body in motion, as well as using one’s own body as the physical and intellectual stimulus.

2nd – 22nd July – OBRA Summer Residency with Kate Papi, Oliviero Papi, Eilon Morris and Fabian Wixe

OBRA propose a 3 week immersion led by 4 practitioners into their rigorous and innovative approach to theatre making, with a focus on the relationship between the physical life of the actor and language in performance.

6th – 11th August – Show in a Week for Adolescents with Kate Papi

A crash course in devised theatre making for young artists from 14 – 20 yrs old, led in English and French leading to a public performance.

20th – 26th August – Weaving Threads, Simultaneity and Ensemble with Eilon Morris

An immersion into the principles of simultaneity in the performance moment, through embodying and layering polyrhythms within the ensemble and within individual performers, applying these principles in improvisations and devising performance material.
In 2018 we welcome a range of external practitioners to the centre, some new to us and some familiar faces;

Marion Castaillet Dance Intensive Workshop; there are two chances to work with this amazing dancer and choreographer from Toulouse, either May 6th – 10th in combination with choreographer, Nelson Martinez or August 27th – 31st, for a week of Marion’s particular approach to the precision and fluidity of the body at speed.

June – Yoga Retreat with Kate Coulson
Dates are still to be confirmed for this 3 day yoga intensive in June, led in French and English by the established practitioner Kate Coulson from Happy Yoga.

5th – 12th September – Collective Solo Creation with John Britton

A week of guided practice and performance making, combining John’s morning training with external advice on performer’s own material in development.
