from our friends at OSR Projects:

Dear songbirds and storytellers,

We have a very special opportunity for anyone interested in voice, oral traditions and local heritage  – come learn the old songs with singer and artist Phil Owen.
A century ago, a group of folklorists travelled through the English countryside, collecting folk songs from some of the last remaining people who remembered them. Hundreds of songs were collected in Somerset and Dorset, including in the Cokers.
In a workshop on Saturday 11 April, we will learn a selection of these songs from in and around East and West Coker, and find out about the people who sang them. We will also discuss what it might mean to sing the songs today.
All singers welcome. The workshop is also open to non-singers who would like to find out more about the songs.
When: Saturday 11 April, 2pm – 4.30pm
Where: OSR Projects, Church Street, West Coker, Somerset, BA22 9BD
How much: Free but ticketed! We advise early booking.
