Lucinda Burgess

After training as a painter in my twenties I taught art but then left to become a Buddhist nun for 11 years, and then a Landscape designer for twelve. I returned to art in 2010 and completed an MA. I’ve been exhibiting ever since, this time working in three dimensions. I emphasise the raw physical characteristics of materials, particularly their dynamic transient character. This involves the incorporation of natural processes, be they rusting, burning, absorption or reflection. These transient changing and unpredictable processes are contrasted with a rectilinear minimalist aesthetic. Both transience of material and transience of the viewer’s experience are emphasised.
