Stuart Mugridge

Stuart was born and raised in the Weald of Kent. He studied Fine Art at Exeter College of Art & Design (1993) and Birmingham School of Art (2014). During the 1990s Stuart Mugridge firmly established himself in the field of artists books and his bookworks are held in collections worldwide. A project at Grizedale Arts in 2002 and a residency with the BBC saw him broaden his art practice into the field of public art. Stuart is currently undertaking a M3C/AHRC funded practice-led (where writing is the practice) PhD at Birmingham School of Art entitled –being-in-the-flows-:-running Romantically-with/in-the-#BritishLangscape-. …The process of writing continues to stubbornly resist widespread acceptance within a fine-art practice context most likely as a result of the entrenched hierarchies of traditional research conventions. It may seem that this research seeks a dismantling of the boundary between theory and practice, but instead, in a spirit of Baradian intra-action and diffraction, it should be realized that the work of the research is to trouble the boundary/ies and underline the inseparability of the two but not revere them in their exclusive, binaric form.
