The Dancer-Citizen is an online, open-access, peer-reviewed scholarly journal exploring the work of socially engaged dance artists.
As a collective, contributors to Issues 1-7 have mapped the field of dancer-citizenship, palpating and pushing its ever-shifting borders, mining its cavernous quandaries, and celebrating its system of intersecting and divergent pathways with optimism that they will lead to a better world. What has been revealed in their works are the infinite possibilities of the “in-between”… the vast expanse of the intermediary, the intersectional and the borderless, the “both/and”, and the hybrid.
For Issue 8, the editors seek contributions that speak to these intermediary spaces, that which defies binaries and categories, or that which serves to negotiate terms between more defined or codified entities. The editors further welcome responses to The Dancer-Citizen Live 2018: Moving the Map, a single day, multi-city dance event held on 24 June 2018, onsite and online, presented to demonstrate the power and range of dancer-citizenship in action, in real time. The archive of each city’s work can be found at https://howlround.com/happenings/dancer-citizen-live-2018-moving-map-los-angeles-ca-new-york-ny-atlanta-ga-and-hamburg .
